The department of rheumatology is located at the Cambridge campus.

Rheumatology nurses are an integral member of the healthcare team who treat patients with rheumatic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, vasculitis, the spondyloarthropathies, systemic lupus, and other autoimmune diseases.

Their specialized knowledge and skills help both patients and rheumatologists to create an interlocking network of patients and medical professionals.

Job Purpose: Provide comprehensive musculoskeletal care to patients of the Cambridge Health Alliance.

Rheumatology treats patients with rheumatic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, vasculitis, the spondyloarthropathies, systemic lupus, and other autoimmune diseases.

The purpose of the job is to provide specialized nursing care to patients referred to the Orthopaedic, Rheumatology and Physiatry departments, including diagnostics, patient education, procedures and treatments as indicated.

Essential job functions are focused on patient experience of care, effective use of resources, teamwork, innovation and quality.

The job duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to patient assessment, review of diagnostic, medical and other information, nursing treatment and procedures, assistance with provider procedures and injections, application and removal of splints, casts, assistive device training, triage, prescription refill process, patient education, coordination of care, including authorizations, referrals to other agencies, services and providers, maintenance of clinic flow, equipment, supplies and resources, while adhering to service standards and communicating effectively with all team members and patients.

Qualifications/Requirements: Required: RN, MA licensure, AHA BLS certification.

BSN required for newly hired.

Experience: Current Ambulatory clinic experience within the last year preferred.

Bilingual preferred.

Experience: Current ambulatory
– primary care/orthopedic /rheumatology/ medical specialty clinic experience within the last year required.

Certification in rheumatology nursing preferred.
