Job Title: Research Technologist 2 Department: Bone Marrow Transplant Shift: 1st Specialty: Job Number: 2019-0203 Date Posted: 01/24/2019 Position Type: Job Qualifications: We are seeking a focused, self-directed and highly motivated Research Lab Tech 2 to join our Bone Marrow Transplant team at Rush University Medical Center General Summary: Research Technologist 2 has experience in cell processing, hematology/immunology and/or blood banking.

The laboratory is part of a FACT accredited Stem Cell Transplant Program which cares for an adult patient population undergoing either autologous or allogeneic stem cell transplantation.

The ideal candidate should have experience in aspects of processing of mobilized peripheral blood and bone marrow and umbilical cord blood for autologous and allogeneic transplantation.

Knowledge and skills of aseptic techniques, control rate freezing and familiarity with flow cytometry and automated cell analysis.

Research experience in the field of hematopoietic stem cell biology will be considered advantageous, as would experience in quality management.

The individual will participate in all laboratory activities including maintenance of QC/QA programs as well as the responsibility of maintaining FACT accreditation for the Blood & Marrow Transplant Program.

Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are preferred.

Flexible hours required.

The Hospital Stem Cell Processing Laboratory receives HPC grafts which may be delivered to the laboratory at any time, requiring flexibility of operating hours.

Staff may need to stay extended hours, possibly on weekends or holidays to complete cell processing, which provides patients with vital cellular therapy products.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
· Executes daily operation of the laboratory and reports to the Laboratory Manager or Director.

· Performs the testing, cryopreservation, storage, thawing and infusion operations of hematopoietic progenitor cells collected from patients.

· Troubleshoot equipment used in the HPC Lab
· Assist senior laboratory personnel in maintaining the inventory of supplies, reagents and HPC grafts.

· Develops and maintains patient data related to HPC graft processing.

· Administrates patient billing, lab requests, and office/laboratory supplies.

· Assist in developing and initiating quality control measures, revises established tolerances as necessary or desirable.

· Assist in planning experimentation for new assay development, validation of a procedure or new equipment for which procedures may not exist.

· Assist the Director preparing new scientific report or writing manuscripts or proposals, and scientific reports related to the activities of the clinical laboratory.

· Adheres to standard operating procedures (SOP) for the laboratory that establish methods that comply with FACT, CAP and FDA standards.

· Assist in monitoring the performance of the processing facility as well as compliance with FACT and other applicable regulatory bodies.

· Shall create reports for audits and validation of new procedures, equipment or process and send these reports to the Laboratory Director.

· Perform initial analysis and interpretation of test results.

· Responsible for completion of daily work by other staff members of the laboratory and performing task in the absence of staff members in the laboratory.

· Responsible for performing professional duties as assigned by the Laboratory Manager and Director.

· Experience with regulatory and research protocols, procedures and policies Education and Experience Required:
· Bachelor’s Degree in biological, chemical, or medical sciences, (such as biology, pharmacology/toxicology, microbiology, chemistry, nutrition, physiology, or medical technology) or a closely related field
· Experience in hematology/immunology, or stem cell processing and cryopreservation, and/or blood banking experience is required.

· Master’s degree in Biological sciences, medical or Laboratory science is preferred.

· Knowledge of aseptic techniques and proficiency with flow cytometry is preferred.

· Having strong interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills and knowledge of MS Office will be considered favorably.
