City Rochester State Minnesota Telecommute No Department Nursing description This position is open to experienced nurses and new grad nurses.

Location: Mary Brigh 3G (MB3G), Pediatric Intensive Care UnitPatient Care Type: A pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) that specializes in the care of critically ill pediatric patients of all specialties.

The unit serves a diverse patient population, including medical, surgical, trauma, orthopedic, cardiac, neurological, and pulmonary.

The PICU is a designated pediatric liver and kidney transplant and bone marrow transplant unit.

Additionally, critical patients with congenital and complex, multi organ problems, requiring ongoing interventions are cared for in the PICU.

The PICU is located on the 3rd floor of the Mary Brigh building in the “G” wing or hallway.Bed #: 12 Acute, 4 TransplantNursing Team s: The PICU uses the family-centered care model to treat all patients requiring intensive care and close monitoring.

Through an extensive multidisciplinary team approach and rounding system, there is around the clock nursing observation, assessment, and interventions provided to the PICU patients.The PICU has a pediatric transport team which consists of specially educated and trained RNs and respiratory therapists, who are available for transport of critically ill infants and children, to and from Mayo Clinic.For new grad nurses: All newly graduated Registered Nurses with less than 12 months of practice experience, hired into a scheduled FTE Registered Nurse position on the Rochester campus of Mayo Clinic are automatically enrolled in the Nurse Residency Program .

A separate application or enrollment process is not required.

All nurses new to Mayo Clinic, regardless of experience, will receive an extensive orientation program.The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care.

The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family.

The RN will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients.

The ANA Nursing: and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN.

The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts.

The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and adequacy of resources.

The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects.

Student or Graduate of an accredited baccalaureate, associate, or diploma nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN formerly NLN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

If graduated from a nursing program that was not accredited by ACEN or CCNE, at least one year of RN experience (within the last 5 years) in an applicable care setting is required.

If graduation did not occur within the last two years, one year of RN experience in an applicable care setting is also required.All associate degree or diploma registered nurses hired into the Department of Nursing with a RN start date after September 1, 2010, must provide documented evidence of program completion of their baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within 5 years from the last day of the month of their RN start date.

Additional qualifications One year RN experience within the last five years preferred.

Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).Experience working in a team environment.

Computer skills required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred.

Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends and on-call.

Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.

Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.Internal applicants should submit their three most recent performance appraisals.

License or certification Must obtain prior to start date:Current RN license by applicable state requirements.Arizona and Florida: Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.Midwest: Basic Cardiac Life Support for healthcare providers BCLS certificate of course completion required and must not expire within 3 months after start date.
