Outpatient counselor therapist

This is a Full-time position in Bloomington, MN posted May 23, 2019.

Outpatient Counselor (full-time) The Outpatient Counselor provides substance use and problem gambling assessments and services to members of the community seeking an evaluation.

Amethyst House serves clients whose primary treatment goal is either temporary abstinence from mood-altering substances or establishing and maintaining long-term recovery.

Assessments include collecting a client’s relevant history, administering screening tools, and then using that information to identify needs and recommend services or other interventions that best suit the client’s needs.

Counselor attends weekly treatment team meetings as well as monthly staff meetings.

Outpatient counselors also facilitate group and individual sessions.

In groups, counselor uses techniques including, but not limited to, motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and person-centered therapy.

Trainings to further develop those skills are available and our treatment team provides support as new team members learn and begin to implement the above techniques.

The position advertised would include leading a group session that meets Mondays and Wednesdays 5:30 7:30 in the evening.

The counselor’s schedule outside of this is flexible and Amethyst House, as an organization, strives to accommodate team members’ needs.

Outpatient counselors will complete continuing education in order to earn/maintain their social work, counseling, or mental health provider license (LSW, LMHCA, LCSW, LMHC, LCAC, etc.).

There will also be in-service training as well as opportunities for training in specialized techniques and/or involvement in community-level advocacy.

Requirements: Masters degree in mental health field; schedule accommodating evening group sessions; professional writing skills.

Preferred: Working knowledge of substance use assessment and evidence-based tools and interventions; experience with maintaining electronic health records of clients; interpersonal skills including clear boundaries and effective communication; a flexible schedule.
