POSITION SUMMARY:To be fully engaged in providing Quality/No Harm, Customer Experience, and Stewardship by using sterile technique to prepare delivery rooms and perform a variety of technical activities including assistance with surgical procedures and vaginal deliveries in Labor and Delivery, as well as patient care and support activities, under the direction of an R.N.PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:Perform a variety of duties in an operating room/ birthing room observing proper techniques to include preparing rooms with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies and equipment.Creates, maintains, and terminates sterile field for surgical & delivery procedures.Properly handles and cares for all instruments and equipment.

Checks materials and equipment for proper functioning and adequacy; reports faulty equipment and instruments per policy.Adheres to the National Patient Safety Goals recommendations, Health First policy and procedures, of Practice, AORN standards, and Joint Commission recommendations.Shares responsibility of call coverage for the units’ operating/birthing rooms, dependent on which area worked.Demonstrates effective communication with other members of the healthcare team and promotes effective team functioning.Cooperates with the nurse in the individualized plan of care for each patient.Anticipates needs of the units’ surgical teams in the operating/birthing Rooms.Demonstrates an ability to perform all duties required of a Surgical Technologist in accordance with established procedures and completion of a competency checklist.Exhibits flexibility and adaptability to changes in room or duty assignments.Attends in-services and mandatory meetings.Participates in performance activities to improve department, patient or physician satisfaction.Completes tasks in a timely manner.Delivers basic care to patients as directed.Qualification:QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:Must be a graduate of a program for Surgical Technologist (Military, CommunityCollege or School for Surgical Technology), OR, nationally certified as a surgical technologist if hired into the position after December 2014At least one year of experience as a Surgical Technologist preferredCertification preferredMust hold current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintain.Must obtain NRP Provider card within 6 months of hire.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Potential Exposure to bio-hazardous waste, substances and unknown diseases.Vision and hearing to normal range.Must be able to stand, walk, and bend.Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted.Must be able to lift, turn, pull, and push equipment
