Lab Head, Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroinflammation Research, Framingham, MALab Head, Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroinflammation Research Cluster Rare and Neurologic Diseases Research Therapeutic AreaSanofi, Inc., 49 New York Avenue, Framingham, MA 01701POSITIONSanofi is searching for a Lab Head in the Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroinflammation Research Cluster who will be a scientific innovator, drive scientific excellence and rigor, and develop and advance cutting-edge therapeutics.

The successful candidate will have expertise in inflammation, innate and adaptive immunity in the nervous system (peripheral and/or central) in the context of neurologic diseases including multiple sclerosis as a signature example of a neurodegenerative disorder with peripheral and central inflammation, dysregulated adaptive and innate immunity, demyelination and axonal injury.

Expertise as evidenced by a robust publication track record in immunology and/or neuroimmune biology, cell-cell signaling and peripheral or central neuropathies is required.

The Lab Head will develop discovery research projects, advance them to clinical studies, and collaborate with translational and development colleagues through Ph2 and to registration.

He/she will manage several portfolio projects and scientists and technical staff, supported by multidisciplinary platforms based in the Boston area and globally.

The Lab Head will identify and validate new targets using a variety of tools, including human genetics, human sample analyses, bioinformatics, clinical data, and preclinical in vitro and in vivo models, implementing new models and technologies.

He/she will recruit scientists to grow the group, train postdoctoral fellows and manage the career development of a group of 7-9 colleagues.

The Lab Head will maintain a network of experts in immunology, neuroimmunology, and neurologic disease research communities, connecting Sanofi scientists with collaborators around the globe.KEY ACCOUNTABILIITESLead a team responsible for identifying novel targets and pathways to normalize adaptive and innate immune signaling in the context of neurologic and neurodegenerative diseases including multiple sclerosis, connecting cutting-edge science with unmet medical need.Lead high priority portfolio projects, leveraging research platform support, develop project goals and meet project milestones and timelinesLead scientists and technical staff experienced in a range of disciplines, from molecular and cell biology, flow cytometry, neuropharmacology, neurochemistry, histopathology, and behavior, to develop deep mechanistic understanding of disease pathogenesis and confidence in target rationale,Support the Rare & Neuroscience Therapeutic Area strategy by identifying new targets and advancing projects in the current pipeline.

Lead internally and externally in neuroimmunology, and neurologic disease research, publishing cutting edge science and developing and maintaining key collaborations around the globe.

QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND CHARACTERISTICSPh.D.

in neuroimmunology, immunology or related disciplines, with postdoctoral fellowship training in innate and/or adaptive immunity, neuroimmunology, multiple sclerosis and/or peripheral or central autoimmune neuropathies.Experience leading research teams in an academic or industry setting is required.Deep expertise and outstanding record of research and publications in immunology, neuroimmunology and/or related fields.Expertise in one or more of the following areas: discovery research, translational human biology, early clinical development, human biology approaches, biomarker development and validation, and forward and back translation of research and clinical endpoints.Understanding of complex research landscapes globally, ability to identify cutting-edge research and new directions, and connect internal and external colleagues productively.Experience leading multi-disciplinary, matrixed teams.Outstanding oral communication, management and interpersonal skills.Sanofi Inc.
