Basic Function:

This position is for a highly motived individual to work within the Pinnacle Cosmetic/ Wayzata Surgical Center. The Perianesthesia/OR Circulator RN will work closely with the other team members providing safe, timely, effective, efficient, and equitable care to the patients served.

Nature and Scope:

The individual in this position will report directly to the Clinical Director. This individual will work closely with the OR team including the Surgeons, Anesthesiologist, CRNA, OR Circulator, Perianesthesia RN and Surgical Technologist. The individual will be engaged and fully understand the Mission, Values, and Strategy of Pinnacle Cosmetic. This position requires the individual to be self-motivated and able to work independently.

Core Responsibilities:

  • The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care in the ambulatory setting.
  • Ability to scrub required procedures as needed.
  • Care of the surgical patient in the Pre-op, Phase 1 and Phase 2 recovery as well as the OR circulator.
  • Provides Nursing care to a broad range of surgical patients in the Plastic Surgery environment.
  • The RN is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care of all assigned patients
  • The RN will coordinate care with members of the health care team including the Surgeon, Anesthesia team (Anesthesiologist, CRNA), Surgical Technologist and Perioperative RN
  • Follows all Policies and Procedures as well as professional practice guidelines
  • Provides nursing care for patients in an altered state of consciousness.
  • Provides drug administration and comfort management.
  • Has knowledge of anesthetic agents, narcotic analgesic, post op pain and comfort management, post op nausea and vomiting management and ability to recognize and treat arrhythmia and respond to abnormal vital signs post-operatively.
  • Speaking up with safety concerns acting as the patient advocate.
  • Pre-op assessment and admission
  • Pre op phone calls involving instructions for patients.
  • Provides ongoing assessment to determine optimal discharge criteria and timing
  • Provides discharge instructions to patient, family members and/or caregiver.
  • Ability to work with patients from different cultures
  • OR Circulator when staffed in this role.
  • Handling all specimens according to facility policy and procedure
  • Adhering to standard precautions including the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Performing interventions to ensure the patient is at or returned to normothermia at the conclusion of the immediate postoperative period.
  • Performing interventions to protect the patient from infection.
  • Manage the patients fluids as prescribed.
  • Protecting the patients rights, dignity, and privacy.
  • Providing culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards of practice, Complying with Universal Protocol and facility site validation and time-out policy.
  • Document episode of care completely, accurately, and legibly.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration skills with members of the perioperative team. Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning perioperative patient care.
  • Use problem solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members.
  • Maintain required competencies.
  • Actively participate in team meetings, training, drills and mandatory education.
  • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility.
  • Assists with the day-to-day operations of the center including stocking of supplies, daily and monthly cleaning, and laundry.
  • Ability to work Monday through Friday with flexibility in start and end times.

Charge Nurse Responsibilities:

  • In the absence of the Clinical Nursing Director the Charge Nurse will ensure the safe operations of the Wayzata Surgical Center. The charge Nurse will oversee all Surgical staff members and make decisions based on the Policies and Procedures of the Center.
  • Assist with the daily ordering of supplies.
  • Assist the Clinical Director with maintenance and education on new equipment in the Perioperative setting.
  • Assist with the development of an orientation program and precepting of new employees.
  • Develop and implement monthly education and regulatory drills as assigned by the Clinical Director.
  • Perform the daily staffing assignments.
  • Report to the Clinical Director any variances in employee performance or concerns with staff members.
  • Assist the Clinical Director with the maintenance and reporting of AAAASF requirements.

Position Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
  • Three years of Perioperative experience including OR Circulator experience.
  • Current state licensure to practice within good standing
  • Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Successful completion of Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 90 days of employment
  • Ability to work independently
  • Attention to Detail and following Policies set forth by the Department.
  • Critical Thinking Skills along with good communication skills.

  • Exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, and repetitive motions
  • Pushing and pulling heavy objects
  • Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients and equipment
  • Manual and finger dexterity
  • Hand eye coordination
  • Standing and walking for extensive periods of time
  • Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs
  • Corrected vision and hearing to within normal range
  • Working long hours
