In order to further strengthen our Biologics Research powerhouse, we are seeking exceptional talents with strong background in biologics, can-do mentality and ambition to succeed.Job Responsibilities/Department Description:As Head of Protein Engineering, he/she will lead a group of experienced scientists using cutting-edge molecular biology and protein engineering technologies to develop and implement engineering strategies essential for advancing our therapeutic programs.

This Protein Engineering group has a great track record of patents and publications in the area of Fc engineering and multi-specific antibodies (incl.

Science, Nature), and has state-of-art structural biology capability.

He/she will design structure-based antibody and protein engineering solutions to optimize lead molecules, and be a constructive partner to all Therapeutic Areas and Biologics Development, among others.Key Accountabilities:Provide scientific leadership and technical guidance in engineering and developing bi-specific and multi-specific antibody-based therapeutics and fusion proteins through structure-based design, with the focus on oncology, immuno-oncology and immunology & inflammationOversee and contribute to the development of novel protein engineering technologies (e.g.

for humanization, Fc engineering, antibody-drug conjugation, etc.).Expand and lead the internal structural biology and crystallography capabilities.Drive the identification, development and application of latest computational methods for enhancing engineering strategies (e.g.

developability prediction models)Provide expertise and efficient biologics project support, with required scientific rigor and qualityEvaluate external technologies and platforms, support due diligence during in-licensing opportunitiesOversee external collaborationsDocument and present experimental results, conclusions and interpretations at departmental and cross-functional project team meetingsWrite scientific publications and present at conferences.

Contribute to patent applications.Provide scientific and technical mentoring to scientists and research associatesIdentify, support and manage talent; provide feedback to direct reports for performance management and career development.Essential Qualifications:PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, protein engineering or a related discipline, with minimum 12 years of relevant industrial/pharma experience or Bachelor or Master degree with significant relevant experience (minimum of 18 years) and accomplishments that are associated with an employee that has a PhD.Scientific excellence demonstrated by track record of publications, talks, patents and awardsSignificant record in antibody engineering and optimization and a deep understanding of antibody structure and functionExperience in bispecific and multi-specific antibody design and construction, executing mutagenesis campaigns, Fc engineering, glycoengineering, bioconjugationExperience with analytical assays/techniques for detailed antibody characterization; experience/familiarity with mass spectrometry a plusKnowledge of antibody structure modeling, familiarity with protein modeling software (MOE, Rosetta, homology modeling)Knowledge/familiarity with the latest in silico antibody design and developability prediction methods (e.g.

TAP, databases, AI/machine learning) preferredFlexible, collaborative and responsive to scientific and technical opportunities and need; ability to champion a technology initiativeClear communication skills in writing and presentationGood network of industry and academic connections, recognized by scientific communitySanofi Inc.
