Head of Operational Excellence and SMSThe role will work closely with the Framingham Campus Leadership Team, as well as Framingham Biologics Site Head and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to ensure cohesive and effective management of programs, projects, and processes related to SMS and the OpEx agenda.The Director of SMS is responsible for performing a variety of complex tasks in a highly self-directed manner.

These include:Governance and oversight of all programs/projects/processes related to SMS: Establish, continuously monitor and ensure the effectiveness of an integrated and cohesive plan that clearly and quantitatively drives site performance and achievement of site strategy.

Develop, install, and implement SMS at the site.

Understand capabilities and gaps and drive efforts to constantly improve performance across all SMS elements.

Develop strong relationships across SMS community to ensure exchange of ideas and practices across the network.Strategic Planning: Work closely with sponsors, key stakeholders, and finance to develop an OpEx/SMS roadmap that delivers performance to pre-established targets across all dimensions of performance (QDCI)Communications: Ensure a clear and consistent communication strategy that drives understanding and execution of SMS activities throughout the site and drives employee engagement and empowerment towards achieving site objectives.Drive strong engagement across the site through the QDCI and team board processes from L0 to L3.Ensure that long range operating and transformation plans are established and near term priorities, goals and objectives are clearly defined for the Operational Excellence Team.

Drive the immersion of all site employees in the SMS culture, standards and ways of working.

Serve as a role model of SMS culture and servant leadership, heavily engaged in GEMBAEstablish a holistic approach and program for human performance; incorporating GMP, SMS, management and experiential learning to ensure a clear path for employee development Key Responsibilities may differ among employees with the same job title and may change over time, in accordance with business needsStaff Management:Lead the OpEx/SMS group that is responsible for all programs/projects/activities related to SMS.Provide leadership and direction to staff and/or assigned project teams through application of expertise in Operations, Organizational Performance and Continuous Improvement.Select, develop, and motivate qualified staff to effectively carry out department functions and provide for the continuity of managerial and specialized skills.Provide leadership, guidance, and direction to staff consistent with cGMP and company corporate quality governance.Coach and mentor staff in all aspect of their job performance and career development including training, feedback, rewards and disciplinary action.Develop work plans, assign tasks, and supervise team(s).Ensure staff has appropriate knowledge of relevant site and company processes and procedures.Proactively identify, assesses, and mitigate operational and organization risks; escalates key risks and issues.Strategic PlanningPartner with the Framingham Campus Leadership Team and Framingham Biologics Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to design organizational and managerial structures that support campus and site mission and strategic objectives.Support development and management of annual department budget and quarterly forecasting processes.Partner with the Framingham Campus Leadership Team and Framingham Biologics SLT to identify department goals and objectives in support of site’s strategic goals and values.Partner with corporate Lean & Performance teams (SMS, Fit4Future, etc.)BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in the Life Sciences or Bio/chemical Engineering with at least 10 years of progressive operational leadership experience (or equivalent) within a regulated manufacturing environment, preferably in the biopharmaceutical/vaccines industry.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Progressive management experience in at least one other core functional area (manufacturing, or quality) is ideal.Demonstrated ability to mentor senior leadership teams and devise and deploy strategic change initiatives with significant business results.Demonstrated and recognized ability to select and successfully deploy appropriate change methodologies and management decision support systems.Demonstrated ability to develop self; build high performance teams and develop others.Excellent communication skills and ability to influence and build relationships across the broadest constituencies both internal and external to the site.Excellent people leadership and change leadership skills.Excellent problem solver and able to generate innovative solutions to a broad range of issues with a holistic approach to impact on the business and employee population.Knowledge of cGMP manufacturing operations.Strong content knowledge in cGMP/regulatory compliance.SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to gown and gain entry to manufacturing areas.Sanofi Inc.
