Environmental health and safety specialist

This is a Full-time position in White Oak, NC posted July 25, 2019.

The EHS Specialist works with Polyzen leadership to plan, develop, and implement Polyzen’s environmental health and safety programs to ensure a positive, safe, healthy, and incident-free work environment and is responsible for the compliance by Polyzen with all environmental and safety regulatory agencies.

Areas of specialty for this position: risk base assessments, compliance monitoring, establishing policies, training, reporting, and overall EH&S in all areas of the company.

This position would also respond to emergency situations when they arise.

Qualification Requirements:Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; or 4 years or more related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Collaborate and build long-term relationships with key stakeholdersPrevious working experience as Environmental Health and Safety CoordinatorCertification in Environmental Health or similar relevant field; or actively seeking certification.In-depth knowledge of Health, Safety and/or Environmental policies.Hands-on experience with performing audits and writing reportsExcellent organizational time-management skills Great interpersonal and communication skills Essential Functions include the following, but not limited to:Ensure adherence to all relevant legal rules and regulationsEducate and oversee employees on health and safety procedures and regulationsMonitor personnel and workspaceAlways ensure the company is prepared to submit all the relevant health and safety documents Encourage and promote the use of safer work equipment, materials and supplies Track the number of incidents and produce reportsMonitor exposure to certain hazardous chemicalsReport to Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) and other relevant organizationsKeep abreast of industry and market trends and best practicesPlans and implements procedures, programs, and files regulatory reports in compliance with the local, state, and federal agenciesPlans, implements, and oversees the company safety and maintenance program; coordinates and leads Polyzen safety committeeAssists with the development of Polyzen site security programPlans and implements programs to train supervisors and employees to meet standards and also to enhance the company safety cultureAssists with new employee safety orientation program and employee safety trainingInspects organization facilities (safety audits) to detect existing or potential incident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implementedAssists with the drug and alcohol testing programDevelops and leads Polyzen contractor safety programResponsible for Polyzen emergency response to environmental, structural, and employee incidentsLeads investigation of all incidents and injuries from initial report to closureWorks with Leadership to complete necessary information on insurance renewalProvide guidance and create internal procedures as needed for the proper receipt, storage, use, transfer and disposal of chemicals and materialsCreate, maintain, and provide Polyzen material SDS(s) and address any reports involving Polyzen materials including those reported to the chemical safety lineCreate internal procedures for maintenance SDS(s) Physical DemandsLift, pull and push up to 50 lbsRequires the ability to sit, stand, and walk through the duration of a shiftEmergency response access and availability Work Environment Manufacturing, desk, business offices, warehouseClean room environment where gowns, hair cover, shoe covers, and gloves are worn at all timesRequires the ability to work in extreme cold or heatExposure to toxic or caustic chemicals
