This is a Contract position in Kent, WA posted June 12, 2019.

Director, Environment, Health & SafetyDescription:As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will take responsibility for all aspects of the environmental, health, and safety of Blue Origin’s people and facilities at all Blue Origin sites.

You must have a passion for continuous improvement of a safety culture and building agile safety processes.

You must have a passion for solving complex problems, providing operable solutions, and you must be capable of acting with minimal direction on your own initiative.

You will be responsible for helping to maintain a corporate culture that emphasizes accountability, discipline, and attention to detail at all levels.

You will be required to develop and implement EHS compliant programs and systems at new facilities and lead recurring EHS operations.

You will report to the Blue Origin Vice President of Safety and Mission Assurance.

This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.Responsibilities:Provide EHS enterprise leadership and with direct all EHS staff at multiple sitesChampion development of corporate EHS strategy; establish standards, policies, and procedures to implement and manage EH&S programs at all Blue Origin sitesProvide environmental health and safety technical expertise on manufacturing, test, and operations systems; process design and operating proceduresDevelop and manage key EH&S performance indicators; provide performance assessments to senior management; recommend and implement performance improvement plansProvide EHS subject matter expertise to engineering and production resourcesAssess and identify the workplace for the presence of health, safety and environmental concerns and make recommendations to eliminate or control identified concernsEvaluate operations for continuous process improvement and implementation of preventive action measuresEvaluate operations, equipment and practices for environmental health and safety compliance with regulatory and company standardsPrepare and submit reports to federal and state and local regulatory agencies as requiredContinually update and ensure compliance with the Blue Origin Health and Safety ManualManage the creation, updates, and coordination of emergency response plans with state and local emergency planning committeesIndoctrinate new employees on Blue Origin’s safety programLead incident investigations to identify root causes and corrective actionsQualifications:Minimum of a B.S.

degree in safety management, engineering, chemistry, industrial hygiene, or occupational safety12 years in occupational safety and environmental management rolesExpertise in safety and environmental process development, evaluation and implementationExpertise in developing and managing EHS performance indicators, providing recommendations and implementing performance improvement plansKnowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulationsKnowledge of process safety management and industrial hygiene methodsKnowledge of close call reporting practices and processesExpertise in root cause investigation and corrective action practicesAbility to create and submit federal and state regulatory reportsMust have the ability to wear respiratory PPE, lift 50 pounds and be willing to work in adverse weatherMust be able to pass a security background check to acquire access to government installationsMust be a U.S.

citizen or national, U.S.

permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S.
