Clinical Operations Assistant Manager

This is a Contract position in Houston, TX posted April 27, 2019.

The Assistant Manager will assist our surgeons to build the bariatric service line in the competitive Houston area.

The position will provide professional leadership in working and educating the bariatric practice staff, hospital personnel, referring physicians, and patients.

In addition, the RN coordination is responsible for attaining and maintaining accreditation ensuring continuous compliance with MBSAQIP requirements, maintaining relevant policies and procedures, patient education, outcomes data collection, quality improvement efforts and education of relevant staff in the various aspects of the metabolic and bariatric surgery patient with a focus on patient safety.

There will be oversight of ongoing multidisciplinary team meetings for the bariatric surgery program, and acting as a liaison between the hospital and surgical practice(s).

Coordinates and facilitates the preparation and execution of the MBSAQIP accreditation application and facility site visit for Baylor St.

Luke’s Medical Center.

This includes, but is not limited to: a.

Preparing application, which includes program information, updates, volume reports, etc.


Coordinating with the Operating Room, Admitting Department, and inpatient personnel to obtain data as well as plan the physical site visit schedule.


Acting as direct contact to MBSAQIP for coordination of application and site visit details.


Coordinating physical site visit by planning for meeting space, scheduling location visits, meetings with faculty and staff, chart reviews and acting as the resource to the site reviewer.


Prepares for all site visits by the accrediting organization.

Maintains, directs, and evaluates the activities affecting the the Bariatric Surgery Program.

Oversees Bariatric data collection management and utilization for MBSAQIP accreditation including the Baritrax system.

Liaisons between the hospital, the bariatric surgeons and physicians, anesthesiologists, and patients to ensure optimal scheduling of pre-operative testing and evaluation, and ensures timely access to affiliated programs (e.g.

Surgical Prep Program).

Responsible for ensuring that all appropriate/required documentation from the interdisciplinary team is incorporated in the medical record.

Monitors for assurance of HIPAA and hospital regulatory policies and procedures with respect to patient confidentiality and privacy.

Serves as a patient advocate.

Assesses, evaluates, and problem
– solves operational processes to ensure quality care is delivered with efficiency, congeniality and dignity.

Provides comprehensive preoperative education to all patients.

Provides for continuing staff education (nursing and ancillary departments).

Conducts post discharge phone calls as a means to optimize surgical outcome.

Organizes and maintains all programs and materials for the Support Group, including Meeting Agenda, arranges for guest speakers as indicated, and facilitates each group meeting.

Develops Community Seminars on Bariatric Surgery, invites surgeons as guest speakers, and facilitates the seminar.

Maintains all materials and signage for seminars.

Assists in the business and marketing development of the Bariatric Program.

Works closely with the Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery to identify reimbursement issues, and develop of strategies to address these issues.

Co-Chairs and attends Quality Improvement Meetings working closely with the MBS Director to create MBSAQIP Committee agendas, including but not limited to review of SAR (Semi-Annual Reports), Non
– Adjusted Risk Reports, all post-operative occurrences, re-operations, and readmissions within 30 days of date of surgery and Quality Improvement projects.

Assesses and evaluates all data-related MBSAQIP Bariatric Accreditation Standards.

Works with the MBS Clinical Reviewer to conduct extensive preparation of all data for presentation to inspectors and other internal and external parties.

Required: Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare, Business, Accounting, or in a related field, or Four years of relevant work experience in a related medical setting can be substituted in lieu of a degree.

Three years of directly relevant work experience in a related medical setting with Bachelor’s degree or Seven years of directly relevant work experience in a related medical setting without a Bachelor’s degree.

Preferred: At least three years of clinical practice experience, preferably within a bariatric surgery practice.

Clinical background, RN/NP.

Active Texas License.

Demonstrable experience in practice development and expansion.

Experience working in hospitals or ambulatory surgery centers.

General management expertise.
