Clinical laboratory scientist supervisor

Under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager, the primary duties are to coordinate and supervise all activities in the Bacteriology, Mycobacteriology, Mycology and Parasitology sections of the Brentwood Annex.

This includes all pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical processes.

Supervisor serves as a core member of the management team, along with the Manager to provide oversight for operations.

Responsible to develop and maintain policies and procedures, oversee training and competency assessments, perform performance evaluations, liaison with clinical staff to evaluate, respond to, and resolve issues, initiate corrective action and educate clinical staff.

Supervisor is responsible for the coordination of Microbiology Testing between WW, SMH, BURL and UCLA Clinics.

Maintain, revise and update billing and coding of tests and to ensure compliance with governmental agencies and private insurers.

Perform liaison functions with multidisciplinary groups at WW, SMH, BURL and UCLA Clinics.

Initiate and maintain process improvement activities with multidisciplinary groups to ensure optimal delivery of service that meet quality, cost efficiencies and customer service goals of UCLA Heath System.

The following are required: Current California Clinical Lab Scientist license.

Five years recent experience in Microbiology or Molecular testing.

Must have knowledge of pathogenesis of microorganisms associated with particular disease states and how laboratory tests can support diagnosis and therapy of infectious diseases, in order to interact with physicians, pharmacists and other healthcare personnel.

Must have management skills such as planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating the work of others.

The incumbent is required to have an academic background, practical experience, and teaching ability in microbiology, as well as leadership skills in planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating the work of others.

The incumbent needs to anticipate and respond to customer service expectations of the Medical Center and the Clinical Laboratories.

Must have knowledge of infection control practices and use of laboratory tests to support this area.

Must have current knowledge of CAP, Joint Commission, California State, CLIA and Cal OSHA guidelines and regulations for microbiology laboratories.

Must be able to work cooperatively as a member of a team and maintain a positive humanistic attitude.

Must be able to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal supervision.
