Reporting to the President and CEO for Garnet Health, the CMO will serve as a member of the executive leadership team and be instrumental in leading our employed and non-employed physicians.

He/she is responsible for managing clinical operations, liaising between the administration and medical staff and ensuring that patients receive the highest standards of medical care.

The CMO will provide leadership and medical expertise in the areas of utilization review, credentialing of doctors, clinical informatics, risk management, infection control, Employee and Occupational Health, and safety and clinical outcomes to create an environment of superior care.

The CMO will manage Medical Center expenses and budgets for his/her areas of responsibility, actively recruit and train healthcare physicians and ensure that all staff adhere to safety standards and delivering the highest quality of medical care.

The CMO is expected to mentor physicians and medical staff and demonstrates good leadership qualities, patience and confidence even in the most challenging situations.

He/she will work in tandem with Garnet Health Doctors, Department Chairs, Corporate Compliance, Quality, Nursing, Human Resources and all other ancillary departments to increase patient safety and satisfaction while improving clinical outcomes. 


Minimum Education and Experience:

  • An advanced Medical Degree (M.D or D.O.) and eligibility for licensure in New York State.

    A Master’s degree in Health/Hospital Administration or Business Administration is strongly preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in medical management or clinical leadership experience in a mid-sized to large hospital/health system including 7 years of senior management experience.
  • Significant experience working in a healthcare setting with hospital, outpatient and physician electronic health record systems. 
  • Demonstrated experience in working directly with a Board of Directors, CEO, and executive management.

    Ability to collaborate, influence, project confidence, identify organizational needs, and present convincingly detailed information, analysis and recommendations.

  • Experience in working in a teaching hospital and with Graduate Medical Education Programs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Required Licensure/Certifications:

  • Board Certification in an AMBS (American Board of Medical Specialties) or AOA (American Osteopathic Association) approved specialty.
  • Valid NYS Medical License
  • Active BLS certification

Working Conditions :

  • Mental Demands: Ability to work under pressure and simultaneously foster collaborative relationships, organize and synthesize new information and prioritize work.

    Project a positive, supporting and mentoring approach with staff while under pressure and holding staff to accountabilities.

  • Physical Demands: Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks.

    Evidence of visual and aural acuity to review financial spreadsheets and data and finger and hand dexterity to operate a computer and office equipment for extended periods of time.

    Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking.

    Ability to lift a minimum of 10 lbs.

    Position requires regular travel between hospital facilities and sites and availability during off hours and weekends as necessary for operational purposes.
