Associate Vice President, RUMG Practice Operations

The Associate Vice President provides leadership and operational management to RUMC clinics that meet the vision and strategic imperatives of Rush.

The AVP ensures accountability to operational, strategic, and financial objectives for RUMG with clearly defined timeframes and accountabilities.

The AVP also oversees the management of and provides direction to practice administrators, managers, nursing leaders, and performance improvement leadership to ensure safe, welcoming, and effective delivery of patient care.

In addition, this individual works directly with the Chief Operating Officer of RUMG and all RUMG medical faculty and management staff to identify programs, services, and associated competencies required to build and expand RUMG services.

This role is a key leadership role in continuing to build a growth platform for ambulatory expansion while optimizing resource utilization across RUMG.

The individual who holds this position exemplifies the Rush mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Position Responsibilities: Develops standards for RUMG’s ambulatory care services as it relates to quality, patient-centered care, efficiency, and productivity.

Executes plans to implement standards to achieve top notch patient, provider, and staff experience.

Possesses a strong knowledge base for ambulatory technology, volume, and market changes.

Proactively identifies new opportunities for ambulatory growth and understands potential threats to Rush’s overall strategic direction.

Develops short and long-term goals and objectives for RUMG’s ambulatory care services.

Matrices all necessary corporate staff functions and works in collaboration and coordination with information services, capital projects, strategic planning, and marketing and partners with other clinical affairs leaders to ensure a continuum of care.

Maintains close and collaborative relationships with the department chairs and leaders through RUMG Governance.

Ensures that practices meet or exceed regulatory requirements established by the Joint Commission, Illinois Department of Public Health, and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Conveys a high level of integrity and fosters a spirit of collaboration, trust, and respect.

Provides effective communication to executive leadership, faculty, management, and staff to establish understanding of the organization’s mission and strategic goals necessary to achieve operational goals.

Serves as a change agent to support the transitions needed to deliver care from a disease-based approach as Rush’s ambulatory practices evolve to a more patient-centered delivery model.

Ensures consistency across RUMG practices, both off and on campus, related to patient care delivery and follow up.

Works across departments to develop clinical neighborhoods that will serve as the future of ambulatory care delivery at Rush.

Centralizes and manages selected functions and activities in a manner that drives efficiency, accuracy, and successful operations.

Prepares operational and capital budgets to ensure appropriate allocation of resources to support operations and meet department and/or organizational goals.

Manages operational budget including revenue, expenses, staffing levels, and capital equipment sufficient to meet patient volume and service requirements.

Investigates and manages financial issues and provides recommendations and implements action where applicable.

Prepares and presents necessary financial, statistical, and operational data for new program of business including return on investment analysis in conjunction with the RUMG CFO and respective administrator.

Conducts space planning to achieve growth imperatives.

Monitors all patient care programs and activities to ensure high quality care and patient-centered safety programs.

Works collaboratively with the service and process improvement team to analyze patient experience data and develop operational flow systems that support continuous improvement.

Position Qualifications Include: Master’s degree in Business, Healthcare Management, or a related field required.

At least 10 years of experience working in a related field required.

Prior practice management and academic medical center experience required.

Demonstrated executive leadership capability, relationship development, financial and analytical skills, and business acumen.

Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve problems in a complex environment.

Motivated and energetic professional with excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
