– Detroit, MI Unit Description: 19 bed elective surgery unit.

An exciting and dynamic surgical unit specializing in the pre and post-operative nursing care of patients having the following types of elective surgery: General, Vascular, Thoracic, Abdominal, Gastrointestinal, Urology, Bariatric, gynecological, oral maxillofacial and ENT.

We provide a healing environment centered around providing top quality care to our patients and their families.

We provide fundamental learning needs for the novice RN and the opportunity to gain med/surg expertise and certification for the experienced RN.

RNs on 5 East enjoy a mutual respect and collaboration with St.

John Physicians and multidisciplinary care teams.

What You Will Do As an Associate with Ascension Michigan, you will have the opportunity to supervise and coordinate unit staffing and provide leadership while ensuring implementation of clinical objectives and quality patient care in assigned area.

Responsibilities: Assigns, directs, educates and monitors nursing and support staff during assigned shift.

Contributes to or performs performance evaluations of staff.

Assesses daily patient care needs and develops and distributes patient care assignments, ensuring that population appropriate patient care is given.

Evaluates the effectiveness of patient care and identifies any issues that affect desired patient outcomes.

Responds to complaints about patient care and manages through established channels.

May provide input for hiring, training, directing, development and evaluating of staff.

What You Will Need Licenses/Certifications/Registration: Required Credential(s): BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

American Red Cross (ARC) CPR for Professional Rescuers card will be accepted upon hire but renewal must be a BLS Provider card from AHA.

Registered Nurse credentialed from the Michigan Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

Education: Diploma Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing required Work Experience: 1 year of experience required.
