The Fort McMurray Strong Wellness Initiative includes programs and services to support the community in recovery from the wildfire.

This initiative is looking for a Public Health Nurse to support the Indigenous Health Team. If you have a passion for providing patient

The Public Health Nurse works to promote and protect the health and wellbeing of individuals, families, groups, communities, organizations and populations within outlying communities within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. The incumbent uses the Nursing process that includes: Assessment, planning, nursing diagnosis, education, anticipatory guidance, implementation, preventative and screening measures, referrals and evaluation as appropriate. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Fort McMurray Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $12,480. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.


As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

    Additional Qualifications:

    Travel may be required on a regular basis therefore a valid class 5 driver’s license and clear abstract is required.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSC.N), Bachelor of Nursing (BN) is preferred but other skills and experience relevant to Public Health Nursing will be considered. Experience working in Indigenous communities.
